More Than Just an Actress

Bringing characters and stories to life on screen is my love, but my life is so much more than that. I am more than the characters I play and the stories I tell.

I was born and raised in Phoenix, AZ, and when I say born and raised I mean I lived in one house from birth up until college. My childhood bedroom is the epitome of “me”. Painted walls of flowers and trees illustrate my love of nature. Fairies fly across the landscape from childhood, always encouraging my love of fantasy and imagination. A self-done, life-size painting of the TARDIS stands tall along with some flying keys and a snitch to display my fangirl tendencies. Two large bookcases, literally stuffed full of books, are my prized possessions.

Books are my favorite form of transportation. I’ve been an avid reader my entire life, definitely thanks to the influence of my mom. I like to think that I was shaped by the characters of my favorite books growing up, that my personality is a patchwork quilt of those heroes and heroines.

Growing up one of my favorite things to do was read aloud my favorite character’s dialogue from the book. I have to admit I still do that now when nobody is home. I’ll roam around the house acting out the lives of book characters. My dream role as an actor would be to bring a book character to life on screen.

My book recommendations: Perks of Being a Wallflower, Ender’s Game, The Martian, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Help, Garden Spells.

Fun fact: I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design.

I was the kid who would move my furniture around every other month, even if the configuration made no sense. I also was lucky enough to have a mom who allowed me to paint on walls whenever I liked, thus the before mentioned TARDIS from Doctor Who and the flying keys and snitch from Harry Potter. There was no limit to the possibilities of my bedroom. Interior Design to me is just one of many creative outlets in my life.

Another creative outlet in my life growing up was dance. I was a pretty shy kid growing up, so dance was my first push out of my shell. It was my first taste of performing.

I took all different types of dance classes, from ballet and jazz to tumbling and hip hop. In high school theatre, all of those classes came in handy. From freshman year, I was always a “featured dancer” in our musicals, and by the time senior year came around, I was a choreographer. It was incredible. I taught my peers how to tap dance, tumble, and partner dance. I created dance numbers that not only were entertaining to watch, but also helped tell the story that was happening on stage. I mean how cool is dance!
